  • Kia Ora! The Young Children’s area (ages 2-5) at Healthkids Preschool offers a warm and welcoming environment where children, parents and whanau can feel valued, respected and feel a sense of belonging. The indoor areas have a homely feel and the large outdoor space has lots of room for exploration, running and climbing.

The children’s individuality and curiosity is celebrated at Healthkids. The teachers enthusiastically provide support for the children to reach their own potential by encouraging positive learning attitudes, confidence and good self-esteem.

We challenge their thinking and enable them to follow their own interests. Uninterrupted periods of play enable the children to be very engaged in their learning experiences. The teachers work to enhance and extend the children’s interest while encouraging their creativity, competencies and independence. During every session your child will have opportunities to be involved in exploratory, creative, dramatic, constructive, manipulative and physically-active play.

They will explore communication, numeracy, literacy, science, nature and technology. Children will also develop those important relationships with a constant group of friends and a stable group of experienced teachers. They will interact with the children in the Infants and Toddlers area as well.

One of the four teachers in the Young Children’s area, will be the ‘primary’ teacher who will develop a close connection with you and your child. They will compile an Individual ‘Profile Book’ to record your child’s journey of learning with stories and photos of their interest and abilities. Your contribution to this record is valued.

There are two daily mat-times. At these times singing, dancing, rhymes, stories, puppets and special items and/or celebrations are shared by the whole group. They are scheduled for just before lunch and before afternoon kai to enable the longer free-play times. A daily ‘Extension’ time for the oldest children, with a range of additional experiences, provides opportunities for these children to add to their range and depth of skills. Each child’s transition onto school is supported by the teachers.
